THE CRANIOFACIAL CAMP EXPERIENCE
Camping experiences for patients with various medical conditions have been evolving for several decades. According to the American Camping Association, benefits of camp provide children with the unique opportunity to participate in a community of caring adults who help campers to nurture many educational experiences. These experiences help to foster self respect, self worth, self esteem and leadership qualities. The purpose of this presentation is to: 1. identify Craniofacial - Cleft camps available in North America; 2. identify the benefits these camps have on this medical population; 3. identify the variety in camping experiences offered by these camps; 4. determine how to start a craniofacial camp; 5. determine how to obtain funding for camp; 6. determine how to choose patients that would benefit the most from a camping experience. We have asked members from the 9 craniofacial teams which provide a camping experience to share insight on many aspects of their specific camp program.
